Check-In/Check-Out (CICO)
Set up a daily point sheet, score behavior through the day, watch the trend, and share the results with families.
What is CICO?
Check-In/Check-Out is a Tier-2 behavior support. Each student gets a daily point sheet built from your expectations and the periods of the day. Staff rate each period as the day goes on, the student earns a daily-goal score, and the sheet can be printed or emailed home so families stay involved.
Create the Daily Point Sheet
- •Go to Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) and choose a student
- •If the student has no sheet yet, click "Create CICO sheet"
- •Give the sheet a name (for example, "Daily Behavior Plan")
- •List your expectations, one per line (for example, "Be safe", "Be respectful", "Be responsible")
- •List your periods or time blocks, one per line (for example, "Morning", "Math", "Lunch", "Afternoon")
- •Set the rating scale (0 to N, where N is up to 5) and the daily goal percentage the student is working toward
Score the Grid Through the Day
- •Tap "Check in" when the student starts the day to record the check-in time
- •For each period and expectation cell, select the rating the student earned on your scale
- •The daily-goal score updates live as you score, so you always see where the student stands
- •The day is filled in progressively (check-in, then periods, then check-out) and saves in place
- •Tap "Check out" at the end of the day to record the check-out time
Watch the Daily Goal Trend
- •Below today's grid, the "Daily goal trend" chart plots recent daily-goal percentages
- •A reference line marks the student's daily goal so you can see which days met it at a glance
- •Use the trend over time, rather than any single day, to gauge progress and adjust supports
Print the Home Note
- •After scoring, click "Print / send home" to open a printable version of the day's sheet
- •Print it for the student to carry home, or save it as a PDF from your browser's print dialog
- •The printable sheet is a clean summary suitable for families and for the student's records
Capture Parent Acknowledgment
- •When a family member reviews the sheet, click "Mark acknowledged" to record the date
- •The sheet then shows when the parent acknowledged it
- •Use "Clear" if you need to remove an acknowledgment and re-record it later
Email the Daily Sheet Home
- •Save today's sheet first, then find the guardian email field on the CICO page
- •Enter the family or guardian email address (it is saved on the student, so it prefills next time)
- •Click "Email home" to send that day's sheet directly to the guardian
- •This is a fast way to keep families in the loop without printing or handing off a paper sheet
Tips for Success
Keep Expectations Few and Positive
A short list of positively-worded expectations is easier to score consistently across staff.
Score in the Moment
Rate each period as it ends rather than reconstructing the day later — the score stays accurate.
Close the Loop with Families
Email or print the sheet home daily, and mark parent acknowledgment to track that the family saw it.
